If you are a coach, you are likely already aware of the fact that there are many different basketball drills for kids you can have your team perform in order to increase their skills. When you are building the skills of any basketball team, you should keep in mind the core concepts of basketball like dribbling, passing, and shooting. By always keeping these aspects of basketball in mind, you can be certain that all of your drills are focusing on the most important basketball skills your team can have.
Younger teams often need to focus on ball handling skills. Ball handling is a very important aspect of basketball, especially for young children, because many young teams often have players that find it to be difficult to maintain a steady grip on the ball due to its large size and heavy weight. The more time you give your team to practice ball handling skills though, the more likely they will be able to improve their skill at handling the ball.
The most important aspect of skill building you can focus your efforts upon is definitely shooting. Many young children often struggle with shooting, so the more you can focus your drills on shooting skills, the more likely your team will benefit from the drills you have them perform. Most children just need to spend time handling the ball in order to become familiar and confident with handling one.
One of the best games you can have your team engage in is the game of horse. When you use the game of horse, you should make sure that your players stay within the three-point boundary line in order to ensure the kids are practicing the most relevant shots they can practice. This game is very effective when it comes to training younger children, because most children find this game to be fun, but this game also challenges them to take a few shots as well. Practice makes perfect when it comes to shooting a basketball.
You should also make sure that your team could easily pass the ball as well. Passing is a very important aspect of basketball. The easiest way to teach a team how to pass is by using the following simple exercise. Simply take a single basketball and two players and have them stand a few feet apart from each other. Then, have the two players move from side to side passing the ball to each other. If you desire to increase the challenge this game provides, you should have the players move from side to side in random directions and motions.
Once you have demonstrated this activity to the entire team, make certain that everyone understands how the exercise works and ask everyone to split up and perform the drills on their own. This exercise will not only increase your team’s ability to handle the ball, but it will also increase their ability to pass the ball to each other as well. Practicing your basketball skills every day will fine tune your game. The more you can have your team practice this exercise, the more confident they will be during games when they need to share possession of the ball.
After your team has effectively executed their passing exercise, you can move on to dribbling exercises. The best dribbling exercise you can have your team perform is the dribbling exercise of practicing dribbling in between their legs. As your team practices dribbling between their legs, you should make sure that they understand that ball control is the most important aspect of dribbling.
If you have the members of your team engage in all of these different basketball drills for kids, you can be certain that they will develop very well rounded skills. If your entire team becomes proficient in all of these basketball drills, you can be certain that your entire basketball team will be full of well-rounded players. By making sure your team is well rounded, you can make sure your team will be as successful as it can possibly be.
